      Oscars Recap 2019

Posted by Alley Dornbach on Feb 25, 2019 4:48:46 PM

The 91st Academy Awards were filled with amazing performances, emotional speeches and unforgettable moments. For Hollywood’s biggest night, here is a recap of the best moments and the entire list of winners:

      Best Opening:

In honor of Freddie Mercury and Bohemian Rhapsody, Queen and Adam Lambert started the night off with a bang preforming “We Will Rock You” and “We Are the Champions”. It was a great way to open the night and set the mood for the rest of the show!

It was also a big night for Bohemian Rhapsody & Rami Malek. Bohemian Rhapsody won 4 awards (which wasn’t a huge surprise) & Rami Malek won best actor for Bohemian Rhapsody.

      Best Non-Host:

This year the Oscars went without a host but Maya Rudolph, Tina Fey, and Amy Poehler took center stage to kick the night off. They showed us what the Oscars would have been like if they were in charge and made us question why they weren’t the official emcee (seriously, they should host every award show).

      Best Performance of the Night:

Lady Gaga and Bradley cooper lit up the stage with the “Shallow” performance, from A Star Is Born which received a standing ovation. The romantic duet left the audience and everyone at home infatuated with the performance.

      Best/Worst Dressed:

Melissa McCarthy and Brian Tyree Henry definitely had the most creative costumes of the night. Melissa and Brian walked onstage to deliver the award for Costume Design, while wearing what look like a mix of every costume.

Other memorable moments from the night include Keegan Michael Key entering the Dolby Theatre by descending from the ceiling from an umbrella. The entrance by Keegan introduced the Bette Midler performance of Best Song Original nominee “The Place Where Lost Things Go” from Mary Poppins Returns. Alfonso Cuarón’s won awards for Best Cinematography and Best Director represented Roma (and Netflix) well and made more history in the process. Black Panther, Green Book & Roma each took home 3 Oscars and Green Book won the last award of the night, Best Picture, which was a surprise to many.
